The Department of Medical Biology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, at the University of Warmia and Mazury was appointed by Senate Resolution No. 316 on the 13th of June 2008. The founder and first director of the Department was Piotr Kurnatowski MD, PhD, Associate Professor. Since the 1st of July 2010, the Head of the Department has been Ewa Dzika, MSc, PhD, DSc, Associate Professor. Since January 2020 we are part of School of Public Health.
The Department of Medical Biology conducts classes in subjects such as: "Molecular Biology and Genetics" as well as "Medical Parasitology" for Polish- and English-speaking students of Medicine; "Parasitology" and "Genetics" courses for students of Nursing and Nutrition; and "Biology and Microbiology" for students of the Emergency Medical Services. The department has two fully equipped microscopy rooms, capable of accomodating independent student projects using biological stereoscopic microscopes.
Since March 26th, 2013, the department operates a Parasitology academic circle called "Vermis", which is tutored by Katarzyna Kubiak PhD.
